Shoe of the month - Fendi Colibri Pump

This Fendi model has been launched first during the SS18 Fashion Show an was quite a success in all its heel heights: 105mm, 55mm, ballet flats, and now the new 85mm heel. Coolness and comfort all in one...!

The 55mm heel is our element of appraisal today. After 2 seasons, the Colibri pumps have been offered in multiple materials and combinations, worn with and without socks, and have some interesting special features.

Aside from its fashion appeal (I love it that although a mid heel, it looks pretty cool), its back cushion in neoprene and elastic straps contribute for great wearability. The décolleté on the toes has been carefully studied to cover them successfully without optically elongating the feet, and still, with a modern feel...!

This is usually a hit or miss in pumps, in my opinion... that is, I personally hate when pumps cover too much the toes, because in lower heels this can make your feet look really long (looking like a retro witch-styled pair of shoes, sort of). But sometimes too much cleavage may show off some ugly bunions, or make you feel like your feet were too wide for it in the first place (sounds familiar?). So when these design lines come out successful, I secretly thank the professionals behind them for taking their time to make them perfect!

As for the materials, the mix is always fun and unusual, which creates many possibilities for multiple ideas, seasons, and different clients needs - hence the perfect name “Colibri”. The design is enriched with sportswear technology - the shoe has no stitches (except for the one in its insole). Its upper has been assembled through thermal adhesion.

True that many “comfort” brands had already been using neoprene due to its great fit / stretching properties... but when Fendi does it, well, it is a different story. The result is a high tech touch, definitely a bright new idea, and a pump we will be checking out and seen revisited for a little while. The price to pay for this lovely shoe...? 690 euros.

Wearability: 9,5
Stretching properties of materials make the fit of this shoe extremely comfortable. It feels almost like a sock, with a sneaker feel on the back of the heel.

Stability: 9,0
You can definitely wear them all day long, as this heel shape/height allows great stability. Yet... bear in mind that slingback pumps are ALWAYS less stable in their nature vs the classic pumps. So if you plan on walking long distances, climbing stairs, or running errands... maybe you should consider sneakers :). With these, you will still feel your heel moving around the back.

Design: 10,0
Subjective grade, I know... though beauty is relative, I do include in the design - as explained above - also proportions of heels and that little line that covers all your toes just enough to look flattering, yet not too conceptual/witchy looking. So a well deserved 10.

Coolness: 10,0
How to look young, comfortable, yet cool? With these pumps you check all three options. So as cool as a shoe can be, these are my favorite picks. My mom also got them in the 55mm in red... because she is cool too.

Price: 7,5
Oh well... nothing in life is perfect. But we do buy luxury for exclusive design and upgraded quality, right? And if so, we must also believe good shoes are an investment (well, I do). Plus, the more you wear them later on, the more the price was actually worth it. A minor minus that is worth the sacrifice.
